I spent most of the last 40 years “Building America”, from single-family and multi-family homes, townhouses and the Synergy headquarters in Bastrop, Texas to the Pentagon Reconstruction known as “The Phoenix Project” after the horrific attacks of 9-11. Even though each of the hundreds of projects scattered across America had unique characteristics and challenges, there was one common denominator; my passion and dedication to inspire others to find life’s purpose. I often found when working alongside people who had purpose, execution became a passion. Growing up in a small town where everyone knew each other became the foundation where my passion for helping others create success originated. It placed me on the path of a lifelong pursuit to lead a life with purpose and to make a difference in people’s lives.
Making a difference caused me to recently retire from the hustle and bustle of weekly travel. Because I have a special place in my heart for educators, fire and police men and women, I again found passion and purpose helping them find comfort knowing their financial needs can be met by making a few good choices with their pension and savings. Having a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Maryland makes it easy to “show people the math” when providing pension education. So, when I reflect on how I made a difference to someone today, I take pride in knowing I helped a person, who spent all their career being overworked, underpaid and underappreciated, protect, control and direct their pension benefits in a way that will give them relief and comfort in their retiring years. Now that’s purpose!
